Default Want to know if this is a good deal

Hello all,
I am new to the forum. I just wanted to get a little input on my current purchase of an 92' Es 300. The one thing that stood out on the car was it ability to look newer than it really is. The biggest question that I have is he car looks great and is in good condition, well taken care of, but has over 221,000 miles on it. It had all the hoses replaced, belt replaced, brand new clutch, new paint on front hood, and brand new set of low profile tires and wheels. I think that I got a good deal on it for only 4000.00 plus smog and also a new suspension kit with lowering springs that have not been installed. The reason I ask is, the forum had a questionare about a week or two ago and no one was near that number of miles. I know that I recieved a good deal on the car. One more thing I forgot to mention is most of the driving was highway driving. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

you should have a trained mechanic give it the once over. 8 months after i bought my car, i had to drop $1700 for new breaks, calipers, rotors, and a halfshaft. i should have had it inspected before i bought it, maybe i could have negotiated the price down a bit.

Everything but the calipers can be classified as general maint. issues.

As long as you realize the car might have some problems, but it is the most reliable car on the road. You'll be fine.

Do this: crank the car and turn the blower on high, outside air. Get out of the car and go look under it on the exhaust pipe. Make sure there isn't any oil on top of it, or a burning oil smell. Get back in the car and do the same.

What you want to avoid is buying a car with a 3vz-fe engine with a blown ream main seal. That costs $725 to fix.

So you have a standard. I think with all those things replaced it is a pretty good deal. Especially with all the things changed. The trade in value I think on the car is around $3500, or at least thats what the dealer in Boston wanted to give me.

That said, I am currently in the Carribean, shipped my Lexus there, it is the only Lexus ES300 with IS rims dropped and Alaska license plates! --- just wanted to share that with the rest of the group!
