A/C sometimes work

A/C sometimes work
I got a 95 ES purchased at Carmax. After like 4-5 months from purchased date, I noticed my A/C sometimes blow cold air, and sometimes it just blows air. When the day is really hot, it's just hot air blowing. The funny thing is, the dude who sold me the car kept pushing me to buy warranty to get the car fixed if anything happens. He kept mentioning the A/C, saying what if it breaks. So I think he knew there was a problem with it.
Took my car for yearly state inspection at Goodyear, had them inspect the A/C but they don't know what the problem is. If anyone knows what the deal is, please post reply because it's summer time and I have a 2 year old in the back seat sweating. I wanna take it in to a shop but would like to know if I could buy freon or something to try and fix myself. What yall think?

There is a valve on all Camry based A/C systems that si common to stick open/closed. This causes the intemrittant problem. Do a search on our forum, or the Camry forum on ToyotaNation.com.
It's been covered many times.
WELCOME!

I checked the site glass and it is clear. I filled the Low point with 2 cans of R134a. PSI is at 60 when A/C is off, when A/C is on, the compressor clicks in and PSI rise up to about 55 then it shuts off and PSI lowers down to 30 or so, then the compressor clicks on again. This on/off thing is about 5 seconds in between. i cannot find where the expansion valve is. Been searching on internet and car forums about this problem and still can't solve it. Any pics of the expansion valve and it's location on my 95 ES?

This sounds like the same problem that my wife's 94 ES 300 was having. It was the expansion valve.
It is located on the evaporator under the dash.
I had a local auto air conditioning business repair her car in April. It works great now. The cost was about $430.00. The Lexus dealer wanted $700.00 to fix it.
They also replaced the receiver-drier.

The original Denso expansion valve is about $60 online.
Is it under the glove compartment or behind it into the firewall? I wanna work on it myself because shops always do something else wrong to my car and if I do mess up myself than I wouldn't be so mad. Plus the ludicrous charges.
I'm thinking bout getting a service manual on CD like the ones on EBAY. Maybe that will help me now and in the future.

I suggest that this type of work be done by a qualified person that has the proper equipment. It definitely is not a do-it -yourself job!!
Warning: The air conditoning system is under high pressure. Do not loosen any fittings or components until the system has been discharged. Air conditioning refrigerant should be properly discharged into an EPA-approved recovery/recycling unit by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility.

Ok, after recharging it, there was no more cold air, compressor kept coming on and off too soon. Then last night I let off some air in the L point. After that the A/C is working much colder than it had ever been and it's working for a long time, no more intermittent problem. I think my problem was low charge in the beginning, then I charged it too much...only two 12oz cans used though, then I let out some air, now the compressor stays on much longer. I also banged on the Blower under the dash, if that had helped any. Probably not.
Yay, hope this will last.
