Question! (paint and 0-60)

Question!
Hi, I'm picking up a 99 ES300 next week, and i just had a couple of questions that I couldn't seem to find the answers to! Some of these questions are very general, but this is my first car so I'm not extremely "fluent" with cars
1) the car is diamond pearl white, but i was just wondering, how much would a paint job cost? I saw EL_gato's jet black ES and I nearly passed out
2) whats the 0-60 time (automatic) and the quarter mile time? I heard the 0-60 is high 7s but is there an exact number?
Thanks for any replies, and I look foward to being a member of this community!

welcome to the club rocketpant! it's nice to see another diamond white pearl member b/c you know, dwp happens to be the nicest color on a es300 i couldn't tell you how much a repaint would cost although i asked lexusk8 at recent car meet how much it would cost to paint the bottom half and it's around $400 if i recall. as for 0-60 and 1/4 mile, there is no exact number since some publications report high 8 second 0-60s and some say high 7s. i recall a 1st gen es300 doing 15.7 on the 1/4 with torque braking (you know who you are )

RP, welcome to CL and congrats with the '99 ES. As FLiP mentioned, it's around $400 from a good, quality independent body shop to repaint the entire bumper and cladding areas. The key word is "independent", as you may already know that the dealership body shops charge outrageous rates. I see that you're located in NJ, so if you want to ask for a good body shop in NJ, I suggest posting your request in the Regional CL forums section, in the Northeast section so you'll get firmer answers.
Here are the factory-tested performance numbers for the '99 ES:
0-60 accel: 8.3 sec
1/4-mile accel: 16.3 sec
Top track speed: 140 mph ("do not try this at home")

No ES is a sub 8 second car without work.
99 - mid 8's. A '99 ES will not do 140mph.
Some ES/Camries with the 1mz-fe engine are limited @ 125mph. '96 limit was 139mph
92-93 ES's (3vz-fe) have the limiter @ 145mph. Sean hits it with his manual, and I'm about to be able to touch it. (One more engine mod away!)
ES's are not quick.

The 99 ES was the first year VVT-i was implemented to the 1MZ-FE v6. The ES is not a good 0-60 car. Sub 8 second times were recorded for the 97 ES 1MZ-FE when it first came out. The later ones are mid to high 8 second cars...even the VVT-i versions.

Eric could do 139+ '96.
Sean bangs into 145 in his '93 man.
I've been able to crawl to 140 since I started posting here in my '93 A/T. In the amount of time I use to get to 130, I now can get to 140. Woot for new engine mods!
On a 1-1 perfect grade road with the gtech pro comp. I've had on loan told me; this afternoon I was going 0-60mph in 7.7. As luck has it the road leads to a landfill. I will weigh the car tomorrow to make it more accurate. It seems to be in the ballpark as long as you calibrate it correctly, get the wieght correct and only stage it when you're not moving. (Funny story, I got it to stage accidentally @ 15mph so I slowed down to 0 and launched it. It though I did the 1/4 in 10 seconds with 560+hp 441tq. Well I thought it was funny anyways...)

I really think you're seeing speedo error calibration rather than actual speeds. I highly doubt a 96 will hit 139 and a 3VZ-FE motor hitting 145 unless 1) you disabled the speed limiter 2) you have smaller diameter wheels that affect the calibration of the speedo (smaller diameter = faster speed reading). Plain and simple.
BTW, how are you gonna say Sean did 145 in his car when older Camry and ES speedometers max out at 140?

I have a friend who has a '96 Maxima. He can do 160... Mine is correct with his.
Besides I know for a fact mine is within 3% to 110mph. I got pulled over by a cop doing 110 in a 70. He told me I was going 110.
I was cruising @ 110.
And like I said... 3vz-fe limiter is set to 145. The only ES in the world that needs it disabled is Eric.
My wheels are stock...
You argue alot flip.
*edit* Was rereading the thread. Eric should be changed to Sean.

Ummmm hmmm You do argue too much.
There is no clarification there; it's the same thing. Stop looking for big words to argue with.
That's like asking me how I know I've done 140 in a full size '87 pickup when the speedo only goes to 80mph? 'Cause I've seen the timing slips in it that put it under 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile. What would you like me to do? Go get it calibrated for you? I've never said I've done 145, but I believe what I've been told by someone that is capable of getting there, and I know I've done 140 and have no limiter.

How do you know a 3VZ-FE is set to 145 when the speedo for all Gen3's are only 140?

No where did I say that YOU did 145 on your own car, but I know for a fact you can't do that on an older stock Camry or ES 3VZ-FE or 1MZ-FE simply because the speedo doesn't even go over 140. So that right there is BS if they claim 145. And why would Toyota let their engines speed limiter go past the speed rating of stock tires? There's a big safety issue there if that was the case. Stock OEM tires for Gen3 V6 Camry 3VZ or 1MZ was an H rated tire. The speed limit for H rated tires are 130mph. So right there alone tells me that anything that's gone above 130 on a Gen3 3VZ or 1MZ is total bull. I'm pretty sure if you hit 140 on your own, it's because your speedo is way off calibration. It's that simple.

OK... I can play that; here's a nice retort! (Look a properly used semi-colon!)
You bash me for elementary school English.
You're telling my I clarified myself in the post above that and yet both posts are the same thing.
If I need elementary English, you need a dictionary.

No it's called clarifications.
