Default time to go ?

Hey guys,

I think its time for me to sell my 99 ES 300.
Its nearing 100,000 miles and I am graduating later in August from college.

However, I am quite stuck what cars to change to.
My budget would be around 35k ...

For that price, I can get a
2002 Infinit Q45
2003 Infiniti M45
2004 Acura TL A-spec. (new)
2002 MB E 320 sport pack
2002 BMW 530i sport pack

I dont know why, but I have not included any lexus cars on the list.. maybe because I am
bored of it...

what car do you think is good for my next car?
any comments?

thanks

Tim

Tim,

It may help us a lot if you tell us what exactly you look for in your next car. For example, do you want better driveability? Performance? Comfort? Luxury? Stating any priorities you're seeking should help narrow your choices down, as the cars you listed are so different from each other.

Another factor you should consider is the car's history. As you may already know, MB is reputable for having one of the most problematic cars in the industry, and I have heard that their service depts are no better either. Just something to keep in mind while you're shopping around.

judging from the list, you seem to be looking for a mid-sized luxury 4 door. for 35k i would go with a used gs4.

Hi,

I am looking for a big car ... so options, luxury and comfort would come first but of course with
some good performance.

The reason why I put down the Q45 is because it is just
huge, a flagship sedan and the 2nd hand values are really cheap.

The case for the TL, is because it is just fast and modern, liked the modern options
such as DVD-Audio and bluetooth phone. But its not top of my list, because I want
rear wheel drive performance.

I have thought about the GS and I really like its performance and driveability but I think
the rear seats are not spacious and comfortable enough. That is why I left it out... and another
reason is just that I want to try a different make of car.

Regarding the two german cars... ya, after checking out their reliablity, I think I am going to drop the BMW and the Merc off the list. The reason I wanted those is just for the 'brand' name.

mm... i think thats about it.

Thumbs up

I'd consider the LS430 before the Q45! & the GS400 or 430. The German cars you have listed have NOT done well in recent years with reliability issues (BMW 5 series is the exception here) at all Lexus has been consistant at the top of the charts for many years straight now . I'd stick with Lexus myself as I hve driven the German cars & the other Japanese "luxury" brands........you just know that they take a back seat to Lexus as I feel the Lexus vehicles are just that much better built (over the other Japanese brands anyway). I'd drive your top 5 or so pics (a Lexus should definately be on it) & you should see what I mean. Good Luck!

Tim:

Maybe you ought to join the specific forums of the vehicles you're considering. This probably is not the appropriate site for your inquiry. After all, we are experts if considering a Lexus.

If you are really bored, then get a horse (at least it has four legs). Get back to basics, nothing like true horsepower.

Scoob is right. Alot of us are Lexus/Toyota biased here. I definitely value the quality of Toyota based products...way more than any other Japanese company out there.

do you have to pay to be a member or something? i was wondering how some people got that gold membership. i thought it had something to do with the number of posts.

Good list. I understand you trying another marque. Infinti would be closest to Lexus regarding quality and dealer experience. Their re-sale is worst than a hooker turning housewife and you can get GREAT deals on good cars, like the Q and M. But aftermarket parts are harder to find than the LS or GS.
You will not find a A-spec Acura for 35k. They are 40-42k. And I would never buy an American made car (its made in Ohio)unless it's a Vetter or Viper.
The 530 gets my vote too. Sweet car and plentiful mods.

It was a paid membership basis thing at one point, but the idea kinda got put on the backburner by Ethan. There was a silver, platinum and gold platinum status. I forgot the levels. But here's an old thread talking about it:

Hehe. Just like a ricer. Posing with stickers of parts they don't have. I earned my status from being a mod and a heavy contributor to CL.
