Default intake box?

How come everytime i open up the intake box, look underneath the air filter, i dont see any inlet for air. I know that on intake boxes you're supposed to have a tube is connected to the box to bring air in, but i dont see anything. Please advise. oh its a 98 ES3 by the way. thanks

You do have one. It's routed to the resonator and air inlet in the driver side fender and behind the bumper. You can't see it unless you take the whole airbox unit out.

Is there any way to modify it to make it deliver more air or maybe cooler air at all times? What if i cut a hole down in the little splash guard cover (?) and made a pipe that went down through there? if i do do something like that, will i have to be careful of moisture?

You can't get any more cooler air than what you have. The stock airbox was engineered to be true cold air induction. If it was more beneficial, they would have drilled holes at the bottom but obviously it has no immediate effects nor is it worth the time to do it. I think you answered your question with a question. More openings = more prone for moisture exposure from standing water on the road or rain to your filter and the t/b.
