Default What is the Difference between es300/Camry?

Is the es300 considered a expensive camry? Does it have the same body code as the regular camry? (excluding the solara model) I know the solara and es300 has the MCV20L body code but is it the same as the regular Camry too?

V6 camry, V6 solara and ES3 all have the same chassis code. As far as the engine... the ES3 1MZ-FE has got a different ECU and its a bit heavier. The ES3 comes with better quality leather. ES gives you a better ride feel. it's pretty much an expensive more luxurious V6 Camry.

Better to say "I have a Lexus" than "I have a Camry"

Actually theres a little more to it than just that. The ECU's are identical other than a few parameters that set it apart for HP 194 vs 200 for lets say a 97-98 1MZ-FE model. The ES is heavier for one reason = more sound deadening material which gives you better isolation.

Lightbulb Camry-ES differences

The Camry and ES also have significantly different automatic transmissions. The Camry still has a 4-speed. The ES has a 5-speed with much different ECU characteristics. While, in general, the ES is a more pleasant car to drive, the shift programming in the ECU has led to more owner complaints than in the Camry.

Forgot to add the Camry V6 has a 5-speed automatic like the ES but still with different ECU programming.
The 4-cylinder Camrys have the 4-speed.

5spd auto was implemented on the Camry in 2003 for the V6 models. So that's not enitrely true. The current Gen5 Camry SE model & Solara V6 versions both share the 3MZ-FE 3.3L V6 with 5spd auto. The regular Gen5 LE and XLE utilize the 3.0L 1MZ-FE with 5spd auto.
