Unhappy Gas Hesitation and Diming Tachometer Wand

Hello All,

I have a 1994 Lexus ES300 and I'm having a hesitation problem when I hit the gas usually on hills or when going moderately slow. If I'm not mistaken, I was on a hill the other day and the engine shut off. In addition, I've noticed that the wand is diming on the tachometer.

Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be??

Thanks,

oh, I'm also looking for emblems for my car, would you guys know where I can go to get the front emblem and two back emblems?

Thanks again,

Nina Reese

The hesitation could be any one of a number of things:
-clogged fuel filter
-clogged injectors
-carbon and gum in the throttle body
-bad TPS (Throttle position sensor)
-poor or dirty gasoline
-worn spark plug wires (if equipped with conventional wires)
-worn spark plugs
-computer retarding timing too much
-water in fuel

The most likely reason for a dimming tach and wand would be a aging and dimly lit dash bulb. Another reason could be the plastic window face in front of the gauge getting yellow, dirty, or crazing with age.

Thank you so much.. I actually thought about the spark plugs. I'll have someone take a look at it.. I really appreciate your response.. The crazy thing is that I just brought the car.... Hopefully, it won't be too expensive to fix..

Another question, that could be quite dangerous couldn't it??

Warmest Regards,
Nina

Yes, it could be dangerous...but mostly in extreme cases....... like if it stalls on a two-lane road with a semi coming up behind you.

Have a technician inspect the fuel system for cleanliness and purity and hook up a diagnostic plug and look for computer malfunction codes. This will cost a litle money but should help the car immensely.
Obviously they are best equipped to do this at a Lexus dealer, but it could probably also be done for less money at a Toyota dealer or independent shop. If you use an independent shop, BE SURE to use one that hires only ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)-trained technicians. If in doubt, ask.

LOL...I guess that would be quite unsafe..lol... hate to find out..

Ok, I'll get it checked out, at Lexus or Toyota.. atleast I'll know that it'll work properly afterwards hopefully...

I really appreciate all of your help.

-I'm not really sure about the stalling... my car used to have a vacuum leak, and would stall when i came to a stop... but not when it was under pressure. A dealership is definitely your best bet.

-The dimming light is a common problem among our cars, is it a backlight or the needle? You should contact Lextech Lighting Sysyems to get that checked out. They do very good work! And while their in there you can change the color of your backlighting if you want.

-For emblems you could check out Lextasy... but they are a bit steep. You'd probably be better off just getting those from a dealership.

Thanks so much!! I thought it may be a fuse but them realized that the whole dash would probably act up if that were the case..

Thanks again..

Call Carson Toyota/Lexus Parts (Preferred ClubLexus Vendor) ask for Bobby in the parts department. Tell him you're from ClubLexus.
