longest driving time before a break
Planning a long trip with my new ES, about 600 miles driving per day. Please advise how long or how much miles after a long driving does this car need a rest? Every 100 miles or 200 miles and then 20 minutes stop, is this good? Sorry for the newbie question, don't want to ruin my new car, it's only 1000miles on it...
Thanks!

I assume all the service and maintenance work (well, not much since it only has 1K miles) have been up to date, so you should have no worries about taking the ES out for long drives. The more important thing to be concerned about is your alertness and mental and physical preparation. Any long road trip is not an easy thing to be ready for. Definitely keep yourself awake whenever you're on the road, but if you're starting to feel the least bit tired, pull over and get some rest!
The farthest I've taken my ES out is 330 miles one-way (my home -> Washington DC). Just curious, where will you be taking your ES?

I have a 92 es300 and I was able to go about 700 miles with 2 or 3 10 minute pit stops in a row before reaching my destination.
Toysrme did a 430 mile trip one day @ 90+ and the next day cruised two hours @ 120mph. THe oil cap blew off the engine. When he put it back on the engine and refilled the lost quart of oil, they made it home doing mostly 70, but some at 105.

The longest one-day drive I've had is about 680 miles. I've found that provided I get a good night's sleep, the more breaks I get along the way, the better I feel when I reach the final destination. Mostly I think it is boredom even if the scenery is pretty, all you can really do is watch the white lines and traffic...it is far from mentally stimulating.
Of course then you start imagining Ferrari's with Christy Brinkley pulling alongside.

My record was almost 900 miles a day, from Denver to St. Louis. It's on my older car, not ES though, and had 4-5 times of stop. I am sure the ES is as strong as my older one and actually better, but I don't want to stress it (and myself t oo much, so I will limit it to 600-700 a day at most... and it's a two weeks trip so the total could top 6000-7000 miles, scary?

If it took you 8 hours to get to Mexico from Houston, then you must have gone via Atlanta?
Just a little joke there Hoey.....

But seriously, comming from Australia, you get used to long driving.. I usually fly everywhere, and Australian air transport is hella cheap, but sometimes its nice to just drive.. My sister lives about 7 hours north of my home town.. So we would just leave early, after a good nights sleep, take our time, stop, and fill up when needed... Aslong as your oil and water are all checked before you leave, then your car shouldnt have any trouble.. As for Australia, with the extreme temperatures, older cars tend to need a rest a little more often, but not if it is well maintained... Now that I live in Japan, I can only dream of open road driving... It takes 4 hours just to get to the corner shop!

I took a trip on the 4th to Vegas. It was almost 300 miles and I averaged 90 to 100+ the whole way. I made a few stops, Barstow and the state line and it was all good! (Oh yeah, I had the ac on and my car was full) So yeah its just like lexusk8 said, worry more about your self and make sure you have enough cd's to last you the trip

I wouldn't worry about your car - it doesn't need a break to 'rest' at all. I've driven 530 miles on one stop - from Tavares, FL to Charlotte, NC once. Kept the car running even then, as the stop was just the drive-through at McDonalds. Just check your car's tires and fluids before your long drive and you'll be okay.

I have driven from Indianapolis to Phoenix (with my dad) in 29 hours. My roommate and I drove from Phoenix to Chicago to Indy in 26 hours. My 1997 ES was great. The oil stayed clean and didn't drop at all. I was very, very pleased. Except for the ticket I got from a Texas state trooper. Grr.
Oh yes, this trip is about 1800 miles. The Phoenix-Chicago-Indy one is about 2000.

I would say if you car has only 1000 miles on it that you have nothing to worry about as far is you car is concerned. Obviously if the trip will be over 3000 miles with non synthetic oil then change it, but just make sure that you are never tired and just drive until you think you might be getting a little tired. When that time comes just pull over for a break and to get something to drink and what not, or just stop for the night. Each person has their own tollerence as far as how long and far they can drive so you'll have to find that out for yourself.
