My 94 has 140k and at certain speeds the car shakes terribly. I can tell that the vibration comes from the trans and ive got a bad feeling that the whole tranny is shot. Have any of you had yours rebuilt and if so give me a rough idea of how much its gonna set it back? Thanks for the help.

I agree. I'd start off with the wheels and tires, making sure that they're all balanced and good to go. Then i'd move up to the motormounts. bad mounts can cause a lot of shaking and well, quite frankly you may think that the problem lies in your tranny but let me remind you taht the engine is connected to the tranny
. If the motor mounts are good, ehh i'd go to tranny.

I've had my transmisson and it cost 2300... but you SHOULD be able to find it for around 1700, depending on if you know anyone. I know someone who can do it down here for 1700 if it comes to that, and it's a factory toyota transmission. First off check what all these people have said... but if it's none of those, the transmission is slipping... first off check the fluid... and put some in it if needed. It may go a little ways still... but then it'll just poop out one day like mine did
Mine died at 176k... dunno why yours whould at that low of mileage unless you beat it up and don't check the fluid...
just so everyone knows... BURNOUTS ARE BAD FOR AUTOS! Mine went out the day after my first burn out.

I thought about all of your suggestions but the mounts are somewhat new and it only shutters after it shifts, if i get on the gas hard it will stop but im pretty sure its a transmission issue. If its that serious im gonna have to part with the lex, no point in putting 2k into a car worth 4.

could be a transmission mount. shuddering after shift does not sound like broken transmission, sounds like mounts. mine used to do it, i replaced both side mounts
usually there is a front, left, and right engine mount, and there are 2 transmission mounts. my bro broke his trans mount, and the trans would jump up into the bottom of his console when he took off hard....

like i said man, make sure you're fluid is good before you do anything drastic... and have everything else checked out.
If your car is in good shape it should be worth around 6 or so... mine was quoted at 5400, and it's a 92.

Has anyone had problems with the computer controlling the transmission? Im thinking it may be a screw up with that, the shutter only happens when maintaining speed and at speeds over 40 or 50 mph. Occasionally the over drive light blinks for a few minutes. Im thinking the computer may just be having a problem determining when to shift b/c when it shutters and i gas it it stop, when it shutters and i let off the gas it stops, it only continues when i make no change in acceleration. ?

Your transmission is more than likely NOT bad. I think you're experience what is called transmission shudder which is most of the time caused by bad fluid. The shudder usually orginates in the torque converter. What you'll need to do is get a full tranny flush by a shop. They are able to get the fluid in the T.C. replaced unlike just draining the pan and filling it back up. If your car has been doing this for a while, then odds are your T.C. could be shot.
