Default about the 97 keys vs 98-01 keys!

I searched through the entire forum and looked at all of the threads and there was one that got close to answering my question but didn't. I know the 97 es' didn't come with transponder keys and what not. what I am wondering is if I could get newer keys can I use the transpoder function in my 97? would I have to put another fuse in the engines computer to do this or has anyone tried or heard of people doing this? I just like the bulkier key and the added security so I was wondering if it was possible. any and all help is much much appreciated thanks in advance!

The transponder keys need to activate an electronic circuit in the ignition key area to complete the ignition activation. Since this electronic circuit is NOT included in your '97, then the answer is no......unless you're a wizard at modifications.

You're better off going with an aftermarket unit like the high end Viper models or Compustar.

so in other words I would need to buy 3 new keys then get a newer ingintion with the reader inside and program all of them once I had them laser cut by lexus? lol that sounds like a lot and expensive. But I suppose I could just buy the toehr keys and get them cut because they are bulkier and look nicer either that or I probably won't do anything. thanks for the info guys.
