Default ES300 Shift Lever

I am in need of some assistance. Can anyone assist me with instructions on how to remove the shift lever on a 1992 ES300? I have been able to remove the screws after shifting it into low gear, but am stuck after this. There appears to be a blue wire running down the base of the lever and seems to be the reason I cannot pull it off completely.

That is your overdrive switch cable. Be careful not to break that..

What I suspected, any idea on how I might go about removing the shift lever without breaking the overdrive wire?
