Default air intake for sound?

Will adding an air intake to my 92 es add any sort of deep sound to it? Also will a cone filter do anything alone in terms of sound?

You will get a much more aggressive engine sound, deep on the low end and high pitched screaming on the top end of rpms.

But it comes with degraded engine performance and less gas mileage among other things right? I've read that here somewhere before.....

That depends on what type of intake you use, cold air or short ram.

If you get the proper intake you will increase gas mileage.

Default AEM COLD AIR INTAKE INSTALL

1996 ES 300
I just finished this install last night. It took 2 weeks for the part from AEM and 3hrs to install.
The sound is impressive. It is a true cold air intake. The engine response is very nice. Dont expect anything close the quiet ride you had before the install. And the HP improvement was noticeable. With out dyno results i would guess an extra 15-20hp. Check it out. And remember when searching for parts to also include a search for the camry of your year. Thats how i found this AEM setup.

your engine is unbelievably clean, it looks great. Congrats on the new install, and on a part i havnt seen anyone else try. Too bad it doesnt work for the 92-93 es's.

You are thinking of a crankcase breather -- you need to plug off the intake tubing where the piping went in as well. Prvents dirtying your intake as you said.

Congrats with the install; the intake setup looks quality and professional

I also noticed that you registered yourself as a CL member on 10/2003, yet this is your very 1st post in the forum. Why the long wait? LOL

The bypass valve doesn't really do much. When the unit first came out, AEM had to ultimately recall all of them because the thin rubber valves would be so fragile, they would actually get sucked into the intake.
