Welcome to CL, and I must add a couple of pointers:

- How much do you think your father's 11-year old ES300 will be worth if it were sold at blue book value? If it's less than $4,000 (the same price as the quoted price for the transmission), you are better off suggesting to sell the ES and get a different vehicle.
- I do not quite understand the 2nd part of your post with the 1st part. Are you looking to have your father's ES handed over to you for the wintertime?

yeah the car has been sitting at the dealership for almost a year. they are gonna charge like $500 since they have been holding it for so long, but my question is if the transmissions from the camry and es300 are the same?

They are identical as long as you match them to the same chassis code and engine.

If I was you I would shop around at different tranny places to find a better price. I have a whole car with a blown motor for $600. The tranny was rebuilt last summer and I have receipt to prove it. If anything else goes wrong you'll have parts at you disposal.

Default Super high prices at Lexus

Definitely do NOT go to a Lexus dealer for repairs on an eleven year old car. I just looked on autotrader, com right now, and there are 69 ES300's for sale for less than $4,000...for the entire car!!!

OI bought my tranny for my 92 Lexus from these guys and put it in my seft for around $900.

I do not see it on there web site right now but I am sure you can call them and they can get it for you. They rebuild trannys and dyno test them, and re-sell them with warrentys and all.
