I'm missing a button cap for the button on the upper left corner of my gear shioft [ Park, Drive, 2, Low etc ] and I can't figure out what the button does. Didn't see it in the owner's manual either.

That, and my remote unlock fob doesn't always work. I switched the battery in there and it changed nothing. Basically, it'll unlock once all the time but the second press doesn't always go through so I have to unlock the doors from the driver's side button.

1) The missing button is for your shift lock control (in case your gear shifter could not move at all and you need to unlock it). You can probably get a replacement for the missing cover from your Lexus parts counter for a cheap price.
2) Have you tried remotely unlocking your car from all different angles and distances? It's possible that the key fob is getting dusty inside, so you can try to take it apart and clean it up a little bit.
