I haven't seen any ES's as sharp looking as mine was I would love to have a 98 GS, but I don't know how realistic that is. Right now my top choice is a 98 Audi A6 Quattro for ~12, 12.5k. I'm also looking at '99 or '00 Acura TLs. I loved my ES, but the O2 sensors+cat. converter scare me
zach, Audi is not that bad of a choice if you're looking to utilize its all-wheel drive system. I would look more into any quality issues in the A6. I'd stay away from the pre-owned Acura TL, as they're most reputable for transmission problems. Have you looked into the pre-owned BMW 3-series? It's a great car for sportiness and handling (Lexus GS is no match for that), but may be out of your price range.

If I were you, I'd go for a newer ES like the '00 and '01 models (same as your previous '97 but with less problems, a more modern look and more interior features). Those ES can be had for roughly $14-$15K with higher than average mileage. If you're a fan of the current ES design, look into the '02-'03 ES. Be aware of the transmission hesitation problem in the computer software of those ES. Good luck

Just out of curiousity, how much did they estimate to repair the damage?
