Hi ALL,
I want to replace all the bulbs in the A/C unit since the "whacking method" didn't work. I'm also considering letting Lextech do the work after seeing some pics of their niec work in the forums. They have the experience and the price they're charging seems to amount to the OEM bulbs themselves from the dealerships anyways. My question is if the car is still drivable with the A/C unit removed. In other words, is a check engine light a concern while driving the car with the unit removed or are there any concerns at all. Obviously I won't have climate controls and defrosting but thats not a concern at this time of the year in southern AL.
Also, has any member personally have this work done by Lextech? If so, were you satisfied with the job?
Thanks for any replies.

If you are just taking the A/C unit out alone, I don't think it should pose a problem if you plan to continue using your car.
Just curious, are you going with their stock bulbs or their "special blend" bulbs? If you choose the latter, I would consider getting the bulbs from the stereo unit changed as well to match up.

I believe Lextech will be using their own 14V bulbs unless customers specifically request stock bulbs. From other threads that I have read I think stock bulbs are 8V (100mA for LCD, 60mA for buttons) but don't quote me on that. I have an Alpine CDA-9811 head unit and the bright green LCD will match with the head unit's buttons nicely. I was tired of going into the trunk to change cds out of the cd changer.
The lights were also going out on the Lexus radio unit.
