Master key
I recently purchased a 2002 Lexus 300 and was told at the time of purchase there was only one key, but I could order more. Once I called the dealership to order more keys, I was told due to not having the master key I would have to replace the entire security system. Does any know of a way around this? Any information is helpful. Thanks

Unfortunately your dealership is most likely right about this one. If your car only came with a non-master key at the time of purchase, and you ask for a new master key, the dealership highly recommends the ECU in the car to be replaced for security reasons, and then grant you your new master key.
However, here is a rather insider tip I received from Lexus: Each owner is granted one free "goodwill" replacement of the ECU should you happen to lose your master key during the lifetime ownership of your car. I believe all dealerships are aware of this replacement program, so you may want to inquire your dealership about it. It's worth a shot

Thank you very much for the information. Security is not a concern because the previous owner died and the car was purchased in Missouri and I live in Ohio. I am going to contact the Lexus dealership today about the information that you provided. Thanks again.

You can have the dealer reset the ECU with the new keys AND program your existing key into the system. This is will work on 02+ ES.
