That is correct. The only applicable aftermarket intake for the 97-98 1MZ-FE MCV20 would be the Injen intake for the 1MZ-FE V6 97-01 Camry V6/99-02 Solara V6. Short ram style only. The AEM CAI is only good for 94-96 1MZ-FE Camry/ES models only.

flipside909, yeah, I found a site for the injen intake for $209.00 still debating wether it's worth it or not
I talked to an authorized dealer and he said he could attach a pipe to the injen to make it a true cold air intake. what are your thaughts on that?

Yeah that's probably the best solution for you for a CAI. And if it gets rainy, you can always revert it back to a short ram intake. $209 is a good price for that intake. Here's another reference site:
http://www.toyotaworld.com/injen/index.htm

I used to have an Injen intake on my MCV20. Didn't like the loss of torque and excess noise...which is why I reverted back to the K&N drop in setup.

flipside909,

I too have the K&N filter and like the way it sounds...... So, was the sound of the injen just obnoxious or what?

The sound of the Injen sounds fine at WOT, but it gets annoying after a while. If you had the CAI extension setup, alot of the sound resonance would move towards the front bumper area.

they kn does next to nothing it would be better just to take the intake resonator out. now that would be the best bang for the buck? wait its free

There are pros to the K&N Filter. But that's for the buyer to decide of value. Intake resonator does nothing but maybe remove 1 lb of weight from the car and make your intake sound louder.
