Default More Powerful Alternator Options?

I've read the threads and from what I recall the stock alternator on my 97 ES is only worth about 90W, maybe 120W. But that's if you're lucky. And not using lights, a/c, etc.

So what are the options on an upgrade with that?

ES alternator is 85 or 90, highlander is 130, should be a direct replacement.

Why would you want to run a high amp alternator on a stock car? We do have the alternator available for the ES300 it put out 190 amps.

Jason, i'm sure you are aware of the seeerrrrious dimming problem on the Gen I (my car) and Gen II ES's (his car). That wouldbe the reason to upgrade. The alternator is rated (on mine) at 80 amps...thats tiny. Even my contour had a 130.

When i start my car to go to work in the morning, everything is fine, but as i pull away from my driveway (i have to go up a hill), i can see the headlights get dimmer for a second. it only happens when the engine is under load. I was thinking about upgrading my stereo, until i realized i have an 80 amp alternator, my alternator would probably blow.

the toyota highlander alternator is the only direct replacement for the GEN II's unless you go aftermarket (and im not sure whats out there for those either). I think the problem was fixed in the Gen III's, or at least i havent noticed it.

Got a part number for that alternator?

Any year highlander or all of em? [ I'm assuming all of 'em, it's a relatively new car and all ]
