help with burnt out license plate lights
hey guys thanks for the help
anyway...i read the other thread on removing and replacing the license plate bulbs in the back of my ES...and it worked great ...until i tried to open the right side taillight...now i removed all 4 screws...and the trunk lock that u open the trunk with a key on the light is in the way...what should i do? i see two bolts for the trunk unlocker....do i remove those? or what? help!

Each taillamp assembly has 5 bolts (if I recall correctly) that require a extra deep 8mm socket. (The 4th or 5th is hidden way in the corner-perhaps that is what is still holding the lamp on). The passenger side assembly will pull straight out, leaving the trunk lock in place--you don't have to disconnect any of the lock or latch mechanism.

I just replaced one of the license plate bulbs on my wife's 94 ES yesterday. I would bet that the 96 has the same layout.
You do not have to remove the trunk release mechanism. Use a deep socket to remove about 5-6 nuts. The entire taillight assembly will pull straight out, giving you access to all the bulbs.
Look over to the far right of the assembly for a couple of nuts that may be obscured by parts of the trunk carpeting.
The replacement bulb is probably #168.

yea i removed all the screws and what not
the lock mechanism was actually easy to remove because i removed the bolts...undid the electronic sensor...took off the metal hook and pulled it out..then the light came off easy...thanks guys
