Lots of misinformation and unnecessary info in this thread.

If OD is off you stay in 3rd gear, that's it. You press it, and it shifts to 4th and then to the actual overdrive, which is about 500 rpms extra after 4th gear for fuel efficiency.

I keep mine on all the time, but just for "hands-on experience" I'll turn it off and see the results for myself.
