Engine hesistation at 4000rpm - help needed urgently!
Hey all....newbie to the forums here as I just picked up an '94 ES300....bought it w/95k miles from "a little old lady from Pasadena"'s husband - she had upgraded to the RX330 a few months back and this ES was sitting in the driveway....(next to his LS430).
Point is this, after a relatively tame test drive, usual driving around the block, hop on the freeway for a cruise at 70mph, I decided it was a good buy (and definite step up from my Accord w/100k miles on it) and jumped on it yesterday morning. Now, today, I was accelerating up a hill from a red light and when I hit about 4000 RPM, the engine started sputtering and hesitating and the whole car started shaking, a far cry from the smooth acceleration I was getting on the flats, and then it did the same thing pulling away from a stop sign (I did it purposefully that time).
Please please please someone tell me this is an easy an inexpensive fix...or even what the problem might be. I had a full tank of gas, the last oil change was right before I bought it, and I'm at a loss!

Could be a number of things. Did you get any service history on the car? Last time a 'major' tune up was performed? Could be the throttle body needs cleaning, injector service, etc. What brand & octane level of gasoline was used? The problem does not sound very serious to be honest (from your description anyways) so I would try to eliminate things through the 'process of elimination'. I think it could be a simple maintenance item that needs to be addressed so find out what has been done in the last year or so to better isolate the problem.

Thx Freak....I had another problem with boiling coolant that was much more pressing so I haven't had chance to reply.
Car was in to dealer about every 5-6k for scheduled maintenance ... need to talk to the svc mgr to get the complete details.
Think I'll take a shot at your suggestions to see what happens.
I'll post again with more details about service soon as I can.
thanks again!
