Default Bass Improvement Project

When designing my stereo system I have tried to minimize the weight while maximizing the potential of a single woofer setup. On luxury cars there is more steel and sound deadening to provide a quieter cabin. Most Mercedes and Cadillacs have a large piece of steel that spans the back seat where your back would rest. At the stereo shop I worked for we would cut that out so more bass could come through. Going with that principle and based off of information from other FAQs I have come up with the following idea. I hope it works because there is no going back. I have already removed the rear middle brake light housing because it rattled when the bass hit. My goal was to remove the old brake light mount and cut out as much metal as I can from the rear deck. Here goes.

The only problem is that the stock rear deck then covers the hole and nearly defeats the purpose. The long term goal would be to also duplicate the hole in the rear deck and recover with accoustically correct carpet.

Well. My woofer has since died. I got it for free so its not that big of a deal. Guess its time to upgrade. Guess I should grab some W7's or something and get back in the game.

To be honest with you? I wouldnt put my name on whoever installed your stereo. First of all, you DO NOT mount amps on the boxes. The vibration will destroy the amps. The cords are a pain in the neck to deal with. If the box is not properly secure and the wires are short, then you just ripped them off your amp going around a corner. Your job is far from "custom" IMO. Its a small *** box for two trendy square woofers with a cap that isnt even needed and some neon. Fine for the customer I suppose but not for the installer. Did I mention that Rockford Fosgate sucks? They are overrated more than before and twice as ugly.

THe cost of the equipment minus installation. I had a local sound guy install it for me for around $150.00 and I ended up with problems later. I ended up redoin' everything and it looks better than before and I don't have any problems now. To tell you the truth I didnt really keep track of how much I spent. It all depends on what brand and quality you want. For me this project was between $1000.00 - $2000.00 Shop around and you can definately get some good sound for under that.

When I put in stereo I built a system for my girlfriend in her 87 Mustang. For $900 cost all NIB.

150 HO alternator
Red Top Optima (I wanted yellow but red matched the car)
Pioneer 6400 head unit
Pair of 80w RMS tweeters - Memphis
Pair of 3.5's - Memphis
Pair of 6.5's - Pioneer
Pair of 6x9's - Pioneer (Modified stock 6x8 holes to accept 6x9's)
3way Xover - Memphis
550w RMS 2-channel - MTX I think
300w RMS 4-channel - MTX I think
Custom box for 2x 12's
Pair of 12's - MTX 8000's
Crimestopper alarm w/ electric lock mod
100ft of 10ga speaker wire to the mids/highs (6 front, 2 rear)
12ga wire for woofers inside and outside of the box

So does everyone still think they are getting a great deal? I think not.
*Added* Dont count the alternator. oops
