I LOVE to drive with my sunroof open (any temp above 40* is good for me) but at speeds above 40mph my sunroof (more specifically the built-in, pop-up wind deflector) on my 98 ES makes a lot of noise. The noise is GREATLY reduced when I hold it down with my hand about 1/4" lower than its fully upright position. Do any of you have this problem? Is there anything I can do about it (in other words, any way to permanently limit the hight of the deflector)? I love to have my sunroof open but it sucks having to shut it whenever I'm on the interstate (or speeding on the hwy
).

I'm not sure if there is any way of adjusting the height or angle of the built in wind deflector, it might not work properly when opening & closing the sunroof afterwards so I would leave that alone. Only other suggestion is to invest in a exterior sunroof wind deflector......but on the style of our ES (97-01), in my opinion, it does not look good appearance wise & cheapens the look of the car. I usually just use the tilt feature when on the highway anyways because of the noise & amount of wind & have the sunroof fully open when driving on city streets.

I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, this is how to do it (I know its NR'd, but it works)...
1. Open sunroof
2. Remove one screw on each side, pictured here:

3. When you pull out the deflector, the spring assembly should look like this:

4. Cut 2 pieces of a nail with wire cutters, about 6-7mm long each, with about the same diameter of the "track" that the wire slides back-and-forth in (see second pic):

5. Insert spacer on each side:

6. Reinstall deflector
7. Go for a test drive and enjoy the GREATLY reduced wind noise!!!!
