Cold Air Intake for the Lexbox
I was changing my oil kinda late in the afternoon and some very nice person dropped this off for me. I got it on Ebay for $205 delivered. Im a computer nerd mostly and not really a car person but, I was pretty good with Lego's back in the day so here goes.
I have a 96 so I just picked the one for a 96 1MZ Camry. The box is labeled C.A.S. Camry V6 92-96. Part# 21-565C, maybe the C is for Clear because it is also written on the box. I think they call Clear what is really Silver in color because the color is not indicated anywhere else on the box.
This is the first part I have ever owned on my car that made it go faster. May I have a moment of silence please.

At this point it only looks finished. I had to remove the fender well liner AND drop the liner underneath the headlight to complete the install. The directions forgot to mention dropping the front liner to access a bolt to finish removing the stock black plastic boxes hiding in there.

Thought I would snap a pick for all those wondering what exactly happens in there. It just kinda sits there and is guarded by plastic from the fender well and bottom piece. A makeshift box if you will to isolate the filter deal.

I have not driven it on the highway yet, only in town 45mph stuff. But I did hit a backroad for a quick run. I punched it and this thing ROARED to life Im telling you. It ROARED through all the gears pushing 6250 RPMS through every gear. I was riding 3 deep with 3/4 tank of gas and the system in the car but we got to 120 in no time. My Ebrake light is also on that hasnt been investigated yet (Sunday woohoo). Unfortunately, I have no concrete numbers at this time but I thought about getting a stop watch and post some different numbers. I dont even think there is a dyno in Alabama lol
Observations More to come
Sounds just like the only CAI I heard before on a buddy of mines 4cy Accord.
I would say the V6 makes it much louder.
I am really glad that regular (slow/pimpin) driving, the intake is quiet (Under 2k RPMs).
Its only when you kinda barely get on it does it make itself known (Above 2k RPMs).
Its kinda funny that when I shut the car off and get out, kinda fast, I can still hear the last bit of air sucking through at a high pitch.

Coi!
nice! good to see yours in also. it looks almost white? thats crazy. Looks good though. just wait till a cold day. and the coa is noticeable. get high octane fuel now 92+
bypass is a matter of personal experience. even with a heavy shot of water in a good carwash i was still fine. its fairly hidden.

Thanks for all of your comments. I will get some highway time in today so I can report back with my perceived gains and comments. I hate to say I have driven my car way harder after the CAI than I ever have before. I am really glad the new rotors will be put on soon to slow me down quicker. Ive already turned a few heads at school today, Im sure they were thinking Autozone tip and then turned around and seen the Lexbox with no aftermarket exhaust.
What does the high octane fuel do? 9.9/10 times I put 93 in there anyway. The tank of gas that I used last night for the backroad run was 89 actually. Kinda ironic.
I also forgot to mention that having the ECT button on will really make this this growl.

yeah its funny the COI is supposed to improve gas mileage.
Mine dropped big time cause i drive a lil harder. And i dont like the way the car drives when the ECT button isnt on.
And the fuel in colorado is usually 92 at most. The 93 is only available in one place.(1/2 block from my house) and i notice a bit better performance.
the biggest jump was in the 3-5k rpm it doesnt slow down in accelleration anymore.
BTW you did disconnect your battery for 10 minutes after you install right? That will reset the computer for the increased air intake

I disconnected the battery per instructions. I had the MAF plugged in before I reconnected the battery. Install was over an hour. I dont know if that answers your questions or not.
