Question

Is the ES300 still using front wheel drive? heard they had lots of issues with earlier front wheel drive models?

I have an early front wheel drive ES and I have no problems with it, actually it surprises my how little maintenance Lexus needs! They are workhorses!

A friend of mine, had his Lexus transmition totally blow out on him. @ 100k miles. Lexus actually said to him that it was a flawed design and that 100 k was the average for front wheel drives engines. ?. Dosn't sound too Lexus like. But I'm sure that might have been an isolated case.

My cousin has a 92 ES300 with almost 200,000 miles on it and it still drive as quick as mine with a little over 100,000! I can't tell the difference between the both. I have seen them go 300,000 no problems. And I doubt a Lexus dealer would admit to having a problem with it even if they did make a flawed design. I think maybe your friend didn't take care of his car and he just thought he would put the problem on Lexus, actually now that I think of it every 92-93 ES300 I have seen has just about or over 100,000 and none of my friends had any problems with there cars. I don't know where that roomer could have come from.

agreed. Didn't mean to "spread" any rumors. Just reporting what he told me about the front wheel drives.

wanted to check it out for myself.

It's cool, the only ES I really know nothing about is the ES250, Lobo i think has had some experience with them and also said they are solid cars.

Default Front wheel drive

Whats up yall , My father and I run our own transmission reapir shop and I have been around cars my whole life imports, domestics, customs you name it we have worked on it, from what I know and more importantly what my father knows from experience its hard to beat lexus quality, I mean the thing anout the transmission blowing out at 100,000 miles doesn't surprise me because every car manufacturer has the same problems some just more than others alot of the cases like that are isolated cases, any car can have problems another thing to consider is if the owner of that car that the trans blew out was the original owner or not maybe someone worked on the tranny before he got it and did a half-*** job, we get soo many customers that bring us there cars after having gone to someone else and we take apart their tranny and see what a bad job someone else did we take a great deal of pride in our work and we don't always get it right the first time but we won't stop until we do, but as far as lexus is concerned we have worked on them including mine and find their build quality to superior to most american cars and other imports. But then again like my father told me sometimes things just go wrong sometimes you get a bad one nothing you can do about it . But I have never seen it be widespread with lexus Very much so with ford and chevy and so on. Just speaking from experience. I love my 65 chevy elcamino with a 350 V8 all edelbrock performance parts and dual flowmaster exhaust old chevys are my absolute favorite, my lexus is perfect for a daily driver couldn't ask for a better car 177,000 + and still going strong.

Post supply and demand

Ya gotta think even if Lexus puts out superior parts it's never going to be leaps and bounds over any other car. If you had a transmission or any other part that never went bad, how many places would be put out of business? The only other factor being cost to the consumer, I think this is why transmissions blow at 100k.... they're supposed to. Just my humble opinion. Ramsee1

The 5-speed manual was available on the 1990 and 1991 ES250 and the 1992 and 1993 ES300.
