Arrow is it possible to sand or wet sand your headlights?

I get fairly good results with that Maguirs Plastix polish for my headlights. But i really want to see these headlight lenses look great. Is it possible to sand them with higher and higher count sand paper to get the look of new headlights? anyone done that before?

its weird though. i'll polish them and they look great but as soon as the car is washed or it rains at all or i try and wax them, the cloudiness comes back.

I've made it part of the wash.....

I carry ina box, a shamy, tire dressing, windex, newspaper, microfiber towels, rags, and the a tery cloth towel with a bottle of metal polish.

as soon as I dry I just apply a thin coat to the lenses.

My detail guy wet sands my headlamps. I never tired it myself, but hes done it a couple times for me, they come out looking like brand new lenses. But it doesnt seem to last more than a year.

Sounds like juan is "really" into his car. WOW!
lol. thanks for the help. I was just wondering. cause if you get a high enough grit on it with the right skill they should come out looking new.

I cleaned my car today and used Mother's metal/mag polish and it worked just as well as the Blue Magic.

I've wet-sanded my lenses. It's been a while and they still look like new. Just remember to use a sanding block/foam and keep the paper really wet. Once you've sanded to the point where it feels smooth, go at it with a plastic polish (3M or Megs) to really bring out the shine as well as to get rid of the fine scratches left by the sanding process. I used to do this by hand but now just use my PC...MUCH faster

That depends on how fine or rough surface of your headlights is. Rule of thumb: The rougher the surface, the lower grit level you need for your sandpaper. 2000 grit is probably the finest kind you'll find out there, and you can easily find 2000 grit paper in Walmart.

It's going to be interesting to see your headlights compared to mine when we meet up next Sunday, superpats. I had my pass. side headlamp replaced, so that is obviously much newer and cleaner than my driver side headlamp
