Default question about brake rotors...

My front rotors are warped pretty bad (it couldn't have anything to do with my aggressive driving habits ) and in need of replacement. My question is, can Camry rotors of the same year be used? I haven't checked prices yet, but I would assume that they would be much cheaper...

Thanks for the help!

welcome to the club. What year is your car? Did a mechanic tell you they needed to be replaced? You might be able to have them turned, its a lot cheaper.

Cool

^ for the front they're exactly the same.
The rear rotors are slightly larger. They are shared with the v6 camry wagon's. (while they were sold)

The price will be exactly the same, don't kid yourself.

Turning rotors takes off metal....the thinner the rotor is the faster it heats up and warps...replace them if you seek optimal performance.

LMAO, turning rotors takes off almost no metal. It doesnt thin the rotor much at all and it doesnt make them heat up faster. I work with a brake specialist, turning your rotors is the smart thing to do, replacing them is throwing away your money.

Cost-wise, machining brake rotors could be about the same as the replacement of a rotor, and if that's the case, it makes more sense to replace the rotor than to turn it.

Well that depends I guess on which rotor you go with. My brembo's were EXPENSIVE and so are OEM rotors. However, Napa, Carquest and Canadian Tire rotors do just fine 99% of the time and cost less than half as much. I always used Carquest rotors and never had any issues...then decided to splurge and try out Brembo's. I'll turn the brembos but wouldn't consider turning the Carquest ones...$10 more buys you a new one.

True if your getting those cheap rotors that are like $25 and most of the time need to be turned before they even get put on the car. OEM rotors are better quality and Id rather have those turned than those cheep rotors on my car any day.

When they turn a rotor your loosing a whoping 6000th of an inch.

Cool

Brembro rotors are $50 a rotor.

Just buy the brembo rotors and leave them on there. $100 for a pair of the greatest rotors you can put on the stock system, vs $25-$50 to fix something inferior and worn out.

I'll take the Brembo's all day long, I have, and will continue to do so.

I dont understand. Your gonna pay $100 for two new rotors when you can have your exsiting rotors turned for around $40.

So when your brembos wear out, you just replace them instead of paying less by having your brembo rotors turned?

Im just trying to help you guys. I am getting all my info from a brake specialist and a 15yr mechanic. Trust me get them turned its cheaper. For some reason I get the feeling that you guys dont believe me or Im trying to feed some bull ish.

Cool

Because when you weigh a stock, or replacement rotor, VS a brembo blank of roughly the exact same size.

You notice the brembo rotor weighs 5 lbs more... Mass = fade resistance. It's also a hell of a lot less prone to warping and being scarred by aggressive pad/driving use than a mroe typical rotor will be. You can get a few of pads on Brembo's without resurfacing. With hard driving...

So which one is it now?

i would get the rotors cut also (turned)

they have a thickness gauge and you measure them when you do a brake job

if the rotors are within spec ...they are still good to go

as long as the guy who "cuts : does a good job

you will have no problems

i worked for a mechanic and have "cut " plenty of rotors

but to each his own

Well guys,,, I just had my rotors turned down today (2front) for $30 and brought my own pads and was charged $50 labor...
Not bad for a front brake job...
TURN your rotors if there is meat left on them... makes no sense not to... Unless you cannot have it done cheap..
