'02-'03 ES300 Cabin Air Filter - which is the better one?
For '02-'03 ES300 cabin A/C filter, depending on which online parts catalog I visit, the part # is either 87139-YZZ03 or 87139-YZZ05.
Which one do you guys use for your '02 or '03 ES300?
And has anyone seen the difference between these 2 part #s?

I will look back in my records when I get home. I do remember noticing a difference in the filters right about the time the manufacturing process of oil filters was moved to Thailand. Maybe the cabin filter process was changed too.
Off the top of my head I do remember that the latest filter I have did not seem as sturdy as the original or my first replacement. I also noticed that the latest one has a distinct odor (not a bad odor, just a noticable smell, similar to as if it where impregnated with a disinfectant.)

kreativ, I checked my file.
The first filter I bought in July of 2003 was part number: 87139-33010 and was $56 for one from my dealership.
The 2 filters that I bought in July of 2004 were 87139-YZZ03 and were $24 each from www.irontoad.com (I think the dealer wanted $40 for those).
The YZZ03 filter was a little more "flimsy" than the 33010 filter but has held up for a year now.
I don't know what the 87139-YZZ05 is unless it has changed again.

steviej,
Thanks for the info. It sounds like the 87139-33010 is the Japanese-made version of the filter, while the 87139-YZZ03 is the U.S.-made version. I found it interesting that the owner's manual says to replace the filter at 7.5K if the car is driven under normal conditions or 10K if the car is driven under severe conditions. With "driving on dusty roads" being one of the severe conditions, you'd think it'd be the other way around. Have you found the need to replace yours this frequently?
PS What do you think of the turn signal integrated side-view mirrors? (last picture on the page)

I change mine out once per year. I could go longer, like to when I get the foot odor smell, but for some reason, I just change it out in June just after the oak pollen subsides (very heavy in my part of the woods).
I have seen the turn signals on the mirror, both front for oncoming and stick to the glass for rearward cars. I just get nervous when tapping into the electrical.
