Default Stuts and Strut Mounts on '96 ES300

Could I get suggestions please on the best place to buy struts and strut mounts for my '96 ES300? Do I need to replace the entire strut assembly or just the shock? Probably going with KYB. Shouild I get rubber or polyeruthane mounts, are polyeruthane even available for my model, if so where? Thanks everyone for your time and advice.

Send a PM to juan01, or search for his ES within this forum. He's tried out various kinds of aftermarket suspension components with his '95 ES. Currently I believe he's riding on coilovers

Ebay is a good place to look for struts. I got my Tokicos on there for a little over $300. KYBs are on there too I think. When I changed mine out, I kept my strut mounts on there... Haven't had any trouble so far.

Doug, I believe GATO is the guy who's been through numerous suspension components. I've been through only one set so far.

KYB GR-2 struts & strut mounts

I got mine HERE with free shipping. Alittle cheaper than other online competitors.

i have the same car......what struts are better.......Tokico Blues for $345 or the KYB GR-2 for $240

overall which struts are better for a stiffer ride and less body roll.? ive heard that the KYB- GR-2 are a smoother ride and still keep firmness and on the other hand ive heard tokico blues are better b/c they are a more stiff ride.....keep in mind im looking for a firmer suspension and better handling for my rims than the stock crap!

INPUT NEEDED!!

from all the posts ive read. the Tokico(sp?) are very stiff. And the KYB are softer. Ive heard several people locally in colorado that upgraded to the KYB and unfortunately they started leaking on stock height springs. I still say ksport coilovers....waiting on a nice paycheck to end up with the money to get a set.

why do they start leaking on stock springs?? does it have to do with the altitude and harsh climates?? will i have that problem with stock springs w/ the tokicos?

thank for the input

the stock springs werent leaking...they just wore out. So a few of the guys i know switched to the kyb's and 6 months later they were shot! all leaking. So they took their cars to the lexus dealership and replaced them with stock.

I can tell you this...from my Honda experiences over the years, Tokicos IMO are a way better shock, tighter and last longer. I had a set of blues on a Prelude with a 2.5" drop for three years and they felt just as tight as when I first installed them. I know people with KYB's...the AGX adjustable models are pretty good but the GR-2's from what I heard were a bit sloppy and blew out quickly.
When I do struts/mounts on this Lexus in the future I will be going with Tokico no doubt!

seems like ebay carries a ton of them. Check in your local area though. Call a wheel or custom shop and ask them who they recommend for lowering or suspension work. They usually have some recommendations. Best of luck! and when you get them installed post a pic im curious what the ride height of the car is when new struts are done.
