Important 1997-1998 era Info!
I just got my 1997 Lexus ES back from my auto shop, and got some very valuable information that I had never heard of before.
Apparently in the 1997-98 era, all Toyota and Lexus vehicles had some kind of issue in the PVC. This cause oil problems underneath the valve covers in the engine causing extreme exhaust to be emmited when the car started, however it did not happen all the time.
The issue was, Toyota did something different that year. Because of this, the oil needed to be changed every 2,000 miles, as opposed to the 5-7,000 mile check-up that you would normally do. This has just now become an issue and Toyota is denying it being their fault.
I originally thought my engine was giving out on me, and had resigned to having to replace it some time in the near future, but this gave me new hope. The parts themselves, the valve covers, cost $800 + labor.
Thought this might be of value to some of you, as it was to me.

Your repairs should be free! They extended the warranty to 8 years from sale date.

Huh, I had never heard about it. That's odd.
Phoenix dude, he didn't take me for lunch...check out those links man. Unless you have reasoning otherwise...these guys are great with my car.
Unfortunately, I'm just outside of the 8 year warranty.
