mobil 1 15,000 mile oil!!!
I recently changed my oil with Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and it says its guaranteed to last 15,000 miles! I just wanted to see if any other members have tryed this oil and is it actually safe to run it for 15,000. If it is, can the oil filter handle it?
This is what mobil 1 said on their site: "Mobil 1® Extended Performance is a new high-endurance motor oil with 36 percent more anti-wear additives and 37 percent more cleaning agents than current Mobil 1 formulations. It is a fully synthetic formulation that helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear -- all while helping to keep your engine clean. Improvements that add up to exceptional protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed. "

The best thing to do is get on Bobistheoilguy.com forums, poke around.
AGT most poor dino oils drive 5,000 miles under most conditions before any major breakdown.
All tip-top synthetic oils have been able to drive around 10,000 miles & pass oil anylisis for a good number of years now.
Only money grubbing oil companies & lube shops want people changing their oil @ 3,000 miles!
There is a website dedicated to people doing ultra long AMSOil service lives. From what I remember, dozens past 20,000 miles, and a few passed 50-60,000 last time I looked at it (A long time ago!)
So yes... It should be more than good for 5,000 miles, it would probably last much longer.
The best thing to do is get on Bobistheoilguy.com forums, poke around.
Send a sample of base oil to a lab to get analyzied, then get it analyzed 5,000-7,500 miles later.
They'll be able to tell you the shape your engine is in, how the oil is holding up, and roughly how much longer the oil will last. That's the only way you'll actually get an answer to your question.

I use regular Mobil 1 full-synthetic and change it every 5k miles....it comes out still a nice amber color and probably could go another 2k miles...but I get five gallon jugs for a mere $20 and I would rather change it every 5k just for the peace of mind.

The filter doesn't have to. The #1 filtration device in any system is the oil itself. The filter only get's a percentage of the crap out. If you're worried about it, that's why a bunch of people recommend auxillary oil & transmissin oil filters.
Don't the AMSoil reps say an aux filter setup is good for like 25,000 miles?

I put this oil in on my last oil change and I just checked it at 10,000 miles, it still looks good. So I am waiting till 12,500 and check again. Prior to that I was changing the regualr mobile 1 at 7500 intervals with no problems. The car has 182,000 miles on it now.

I am an Amsoil dealer and would like to bring something to your attention. The new Mobil 1 15000 mile oil does not mean they guarantee it for 15000 miles. Read the back of the bottle and you will see that they state you must follow car manufacturers oil change intervals. Amsoil guarantees their oil for up to 35,000 miles or 1 year as long as you change the filter between oil changes. I truly believe the Amsoil is the way to go especially when anyone can purchase at dealer cost. Check this out on how to do that. http://www.modernoils.com/Purchase_at_Dealer_Cost.html
