I'm curious as to what the opinions of other members here at the forum are.
A friend of mine recently bought a 1992 BMW 5-Series off of eBay. Shocked at that kind of purchase, I inquired as to the details of the transaction. He did some research for a couple of weeks and found this car in great condition and no known issues. He purchased the vehicle for $3500 - paid for and clear.
I have done some looking out of curiosity, and have found some amazing deals on eBay for Lexus vehicles. I found a 2000 ES for $3000.
My question here is, where have the majority of the members in the ES forums bought their Lexus'? What are there thoughts of buying one off of eBay? Mine was actually through a Lexus dealership, but I think a purchase of this kind via a website that really works as an online garage sale, brings a lot of possibilities to people who may not otherwise be able to buy a Lexus.
An interesting side note, this guy sold his '01 GS300 to have a car paid for in cash!

I bought my car from an ad in the paper a few years back. As for ebay, i wouldnt do it without seeing it in person and test driving it before buying it off ebay. There could be problems not described or you might not expect what you get.

I bought mine as a CPO Lexus at Lexus of Richmond Hill (a dealer just north of Toronto). It really doesn't matter where one buys older Lexus models I guess, as long as the mileage, maintenance history & body condition can all be accounted for. Just be careful is all.

Mine was a CPO as well, bought from Woodfield Lexus in Schaumburg, IL. I have a 100k warranty on it. I had the service records pulled up on it, and they were clean (oil changed routinely, etc).

Mine was purchased from a private party that tried to sell it at auction and couldn't get the price he wanted. We got his personal information and got in contact with him a few days later.
After we had the car looked over by a body shop and then a mechanic, we did a search on the title along with having it for a weekend. When all was said and done, we purchased the vehicle ('95 ES300). It's been a good vehicle and we drive the heck out of it.
Afterwards, I found that you can locate a good deal from the Lexus website and that is where I'll buy the next one.
