I don't know the bulb type of the reverse lights on your '02 ES, but I upgraded the lights on my '01 ES with a set of Polarg M6 bulbs (921 factory bulb type). They appear blue when unlit due to the blue tint coating of the bulbs, but they look much brighter and whiter when lit, esp. at night Here's a pic of the bulbs lit up at daytime (can't get good shots at nighttime, sorry).

Changed my reverse lights on my 03 ES not too long ago. I replaced them with the Piaa Xtreme White Bulbs. The size was W2 18W listed on the Piaa box. Lexus owner manual says 921-18W. The bulbs are blue and they're not that "xtremely" bright but will grab attention because of its white color. Its whiter than your normal bulb but not that much brighter. Also replaced all four amber signal bulbs with Piaa's Mirror Orange bulb (size 7440). Very pleased with those bulbs.

to much wattage + small wires = pretty fire! or lexus scented smoke.

on a side note, my 2002 manual calls for a 16w (921 style) bulb.

No kidding.
1) You don't realize the stop light & headlight systems are wired through each other. You're going to have problems when you burn a fuse for either system out out in addition to the obvious lights that go out
2) The wiring won't like the load. Just like using 80+ watt headlights in our 65 watt housings, it will melt, and possibly catch on fire in the process.
3) The light housings themselves melt somewhere between 150-180*F. I know... We've all put them in ovens to remove the sealant/glue, and found some soft, melted & discolored plastic afterwards where it touched an oven rack
If you need reverse lights that badly stop being retarded. Take the sunglasses off at night, take the limo tint off the back glass, or install a set of driving lights in the rear of the car.
Install a relay into the stock reverse lights to turn the rear driving lights on with the reverse lights. Just so you don't look like a complete retard, put the relay through a 3 second timer, that way you don't cut the lights on moving the shifter through reverse.
This thread is retarded & should be locked so in-experienced people don't come through & put big bulbs in little holes.
bulb in hole! hahahahahaha hah
No offince but come on... Common since man.

Hey hey now, take it easy guys. No need for anyone to jump the gun and go to misleading conclusions
I've seen plenty of people put in aftermarket bulbs for the reverse lights in their Maximas, Altimas, GS's, IS's, blah blah blah... and I've never once heard of a case where either the bulb or a fuse blew out from normal use of an aftermarket reverse light bulb. As steviej has noted, it's not like you're going to leave the reverse light on continuously like you would on your low beams at nighttime. Just think about it.
As you can see from the pic I posted earlier in this thread, I've had no problems putting in Polarg M6 bulbs for my back-up lights, and they also look great when turned off
Let's help one another instead of picking on each other, shall we?
