Question

Sorry if this question has been posted before, but what do all the letters stand for in the model names (ES, GS, LS, IS, RX, LX, SC) ?

The Lexus model names seem more abitrary than they are acronyms. ES = Executive Sedan? LS = Luxury Sedan? SC = Sport Coupe or Sport Convertible? I suppose the "X" is supposed to mean 4-wheel drive. I dunno!

I can , however, give you the model names in Japan.

ES = Toyota Windom
IS = Toyota Altezza
GS = Toyota Aristo
LS = Toyota Celsior
SC = Toyota Soarer
RX = Toyota Harrier
LX = Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus
(Our Land Cruiser is called the "Land Cruiser Amazon" in Japan)
