I didn't replace the orange peice with anything.
I didn't want to put a diffuser so close to the clear lens, b/c I wanted to copy the look of the 00/01 es's lights with the reflectors.
I'm going to endup sticking a reflector in there sometime and remove the ugly diffuser.
To clarify...
The pic thats all clear has NO diffuser in it. Someday..i want to add a reflector instead of a diffuser like all the 97+ es 300s.
As for the second picture, that has the stock/oem light diffuser. There are two light diffusers that spread the light around...the whitish one, and the orange one. In order to clear the light, i simply took out the orange piece. Some people on the board also bought extra diffuser panels (the ones for florescent light fitures) and placed them inside in between the white diffuser and the clear lens. I decided not to do this part b/c i liked the 'clear' look of the light when you look at it from the side.

Oh ok, so I wouldn't have to make another diffuser or anything. cool. So just chuck the white defusser back into the light, after taking out the orange one. And spray paint the black to silver (which is a gret idea after I was looking at my lights for a while). Do you think I could get away with chucking blue LED's into the indicator section? :P:P

On 98-02 Camaro's, 200* for 20 minutes (i think I took mine out at 16) will seperate the lens from the rest of the case.

How do you get the actual light out... I assume you go through the boot from the inside, take out the interior casing within the boot and go from there???

Angry

I've got the taillights off. Gonna DO THIS today!

Wooohooo!

Oh! Um. My oven isn't big enough to completely put a taillight in there.

I'm pondering using my heatgun to work my way around the light, loosening each section as I go. Any thoughts about how well this will work from you fellas that've done this already?

Wha? WTF? You have to open these up to take the orange piece out. There's no yellow film at issue here, right? I searched by heatgun and clearing tails and that reply is the only one that came up (it's earlier in this thread).

Haha why didn't i notice that post?
You have to open it and take out the orange lens as proven in my pics...
A heat gun ...wont really work. Since your pulling on one section at a time, I guarantee you'll end up morphing up the plastic or breaking something.

You are CORRECT, Sir! Tested and proven. I tested it on a small spot on the bottom of the lens assembly, and, for the tiny amount of time I applied heat, the plastic was affected. Do not attempt that method.

I might have to take a part time job at a pizza place just so I can get and use an oven large enough for the entire taillight assembly.

I guess I'll just replace the license place bulbs with LEDs and put everything back on the car for now.

Yeah I was about to say, you might want to be ableto spread the heat quite even;y across the light, otherwise parts would be deformed with that method.
