Hi all,
I just bought a black on black 98 ES300 from a private party w/ 101K miles on it. I am now the 3rd owner of this car. Carfax checked out all ok.
Paid $9400 + registration, tax, and license stuff.
While doing my own research on the ES300s, I came across this forum.
I've scheduled a service appointment at my local Toyota dealer to have a 90K service done on it since I could not get any service history on the car from the previous owner, except for them saying "We changed the timing belt @90K and We would regularly do oil changes".
I personally will not be satisfied until I know it was done for sure...don't get me wrong the car is in excellent shape.
For now I have a question to all:
If I disconnect the battery from my car, will need a code(s) to reset anything(radio, security system or whatever you guys can think of).
In advance thanks for your help is appriciated.

Engine gelling one way to check if it have engine gelling is when you start up in the morning look at the tail pipe if blue/grey somke coming out then you would know that the valve seals are bad and its leaking oil into the cyclinders and when oil combust in there and on the exhaust stroke the somke will come out blue/grey color. gelling is cause from lack of oil change or by changing oil every 5k like the dealers tell you. cause the the V6 engine sitting on a angle the old oil like to sit in the heads letting the old oil to build up in cyclinders its like sluge. Just change oil every 3k and you should be fine

Not at all. The es's are just such great cars and actually appear way more expensive than they really are.

Got all of these things done:
*Oil & Filter change
*Replace air filter
*Complete coolant exchange
*Timing belt
*New water pump
*New Thermostat
*Transmission fluid exchange(included: remove & clean pan, replace pan gasket).
*Brake fluid chage
*Leak diagnostic showed a leaking power steering pump
*New power steering pump
*Power steering flush/bleed
Parts: $499 Labor: $788 @Pep boys
I will be eating/drinking bread and water for a while till my pockets recover.

All these items you mentioned comprise the typical 90K service, but I had no idea your PS pump needed to be replaced. That itself is not a very common problem on the ES, and is definitely an expensive fix when not working. Well, at least consider your visit to the shop a one-time thing, just enough to ensure another 100K+ miles of driving freedom
