Mercedes choose to go with infrared to roll up and down windows to avoid accidental rolling up or down while the key is in your pocket and not facing the sensor. However, other remote functions work on regular waves, and don’t require direct sight of the sensor on the door locks to function.

I dont think the rear has pinch protection, unless it has AUTO up/down on all four corners (I though the ES only came with front AUTO up/down).
