Angry Programming 1998 Remote

Hello all - I just bought a replacement remote on eBay for my 1998 ES300. The last one broke where it attaches to the keychain, so it was pretty much useless. I have instructions for programming a Lexus key/remote combo., and I figured it would work the same way for thsi remote but I'm not having any luck. I can easily get to the point where the door locks and unlocks itself, then I hold down the lock button on the new remote, but to no avail... Any suggestions? Lexus wants to charge $45 to do it, and it's their defective remote design that caused the problem in the first place!

hmm...it was listed on eBay for a 1998 era LS400, but I assumed it would work on either car. I don't know about the battery, though. Was my procedure correct?

I've had the same problem, I too replaced my remote via eBay. I've given up on it and am just going to take it to my local Lexus dealership...

Hey guys, I had the same problem a while ago and I'm here to tell you that you DON'T need to reprogram the remote if you have the fob remote.
All you need to do is:

1. Get a small knife or a very thin screwdriver.
2. Pry open the old/broken remote. (there is a groove in the side the runs all the way around)
3. CAREFULLY pry out the internals. (It is a small computer board)
4. Do the same to the new remote.
5. Put the old internal board into the new romote casing.
6. Press it back together and there you go!

I hope that helps guys

You're right. That worked like a charm, and it was so much easier than trying to reprogram a remote. Very "Duh" moment. Thanks for your help. Now does anyone want to buy the old remote assembly?
