I am still under a media blackout until August 1, so I can't reveal too many details, but here's what I can tell you...
I just returned from a press preview for the new ES-300 and I am impressed. Well, sort of. Lexus has raised the bar yet again on smoothness and quiet ride. The ES300 will be best in class for those qualities, which make a Lexus a Lexus. Body gaps are even narrower then before and the interior trimmings are first class. Many new options formally reserved for the LS include a new and improved NAV system and an excellent computer-controlled Sport Suspension. Performance, on the other hand, has not improved with a 0 - 60 time of 8.1 seconds. This is partially due to the fact that Lexus is striving for a ULEV rating for all their cars. The 5-speed automatic is as smooth as it gets, with a gated shifter but no e-shift (due to the ULEV rating.)
I have lots of pictures which you can see, along with my full report, at the stroke of midnight (EST) on 8/1/2001 at http://www.familycar.com.

What do you mean by "A CL member"? I'm an Automotive Journalist. I road test cars and write about them. The only car that I own is a '93 LS400 with 122,000 miles on it. (I haven't tested too many cars that are better than it)
