I know that Lexus has designed the new ES with an attitude of total and absolute luxury with absolutely no performance. I think that will suit my parents just fine. Anyway, it would really sicken me if, in a few (model) years, Lexus would give the new ES a larger, more powerful engine. They will need a 3-point-something to keep up with the competition, but image how angry the customers would be to find that the 2002 ES would perform like a truck in comparison to a 2004 ES with a redesigned the engine (if they redesign, of course)...

You are right the IS300 will be the first out of the ES & IS to get the HP increase. Sportiness always needs more power. But damn, Lexus has to make the IS300 a little larger and not so much the size of a CIVIC. Small looks like any econo cars pm the road, even if it's a Lexus. There should only be 2 doors on this car, since 4 doors just looks crowded.
My opinion thrown in once again.

Having a similar MSRP I'm curious to see what will happen over the next few years as used IS cars come about. The reason being three years back when I got my car I didn't have the option of buying a 96IS. I have a feeling there will be a lot less people worrying about the HP of the ES model.
