new owner, need help!
hi all, I've been reading this forum for a while now and I hope you guys can help me out with a couple of questions.
1. engine light and "trac off" light came on. i took it to the dealer and he said that "Found DTC P0420 for catalyst efficiency below threshold". The repair is $1750. i didnt get any repair done on it yet so the light stays on. is there a way that i can buy a brand new oem catalytic converter for around $350 online and have someone install it? would that solve the problem and make the light go away?
2. previous owner had installed Tokico blues shocks. I need new front strut mounts, do i get the OEM mounts or something that has to fit the Tokico set? is strut mount and suspension mount the same?
thank you

sounds like my problem, go tthe car and those lights went on, i thought it was the alternator(toyotas tend to have diff dummy lights go on when it goes)
i took it to the dealer i bought it from and they replaced the rear o2 sensor but i have to take it to a lexus dealer for the trac off light, they say it could be a wheel sensor but they said they would pay for it

Update.
i got new front rotors and pads for the car, did alignment, replace with front strut mounts (which is specifically what the dealer recommends). The "trac off" light is still on!!! what exactly is the problem here and do i have to bring it to the dealer and pay another $100 for them to tell me i need more things fixed?
also, considering i replace all the recommended stuff and the light comes on, does it mean my car is still runing with traction control off? i want to make sure the car is safe for driving in the snow. i would really appreciate any help. thanks in advance.

If the check engine light is also on, you need to bring your car to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and get the error code(s) read via an OBD-II compliant scanner. Don't worry, it's a free service. Make note of the error code(s), and come back here for answers
