Got a cel on my 95 ES, where to get it read?
I have a cel that just came on on my 95 ES. Car still runs fine. I went to autozone and discount auto to get it checked, but both said they can only check 96+
any other ideas. what do you guys think it is? car has 92k miles. I'm guessing it's an 02 sensor....

Either O2 sensor....or even the EGR valve actuator. (the piece w/a Denso sticker above the EGR valve with vacuum hoses attached to it). EGR valve actuator is very common to go out around that mileage. Try this...reset your ECU (unplug the battery or EFI fuse for 10 seconds) and see if the CEL goes off. If it returns after a few miles, theres a good chance it's the EGR valve actuator.

Ummmmm...
Troubleshoot after he's told us symptoms, or codes, otherwise it's just blind guessing. 1mz-fe's were the world's first OBD-II compliant engine. Take it back & make them scan it. 94-95's have the OBD-II connector (DLC3-fuse box i do believe), and the 2 previous 3vz-fe OBD-I connectors (DLC1 engine bay & DLC2 under dash).

i have a 95ES, the obdii scanner port is inside the kick panel fuse box driver side location. just tell autozone your car is 96+ (or watever year they want it to be). in the meantime, check your gas cap and and make sure its on tight. check condition of the gas cap gasket also.

thanks for the tips guys. here's the results. first 02 sensor
it looks like this sensor is easy to change. is there anything special I need to know, or do I just unbolt/unplug the old one and vice versa?

The link also includes the suggestion of buying a universal sensor from an online site to save money from the factory sensor, even though some electrical work is needed to make the sensor operational in the car.

btw-the pn is 89465-33080.
would this sensor have been giving me bad gas mileage before the cell finally came on? it seemed like my mileage has been suffering for a while.

Need Help
thanks again guys. I am getting ready to install new sensor and I just realized I don't know which one is "sensor 1 in bank 1"
is it the one on the front of the motor or the one on back near firewall?

I did more searching and found out it's the one near fire wall. of course :
no biggie though, I already changed it. I just had to cram my arm in behind the motor. it took me longer to get the plug unplugged because it was hard to get 2 hands on it.
