Default 1st gear takes too long to shift - Help >

Hey guys,

I'm new around here but this seems to be a knowledgeable forum. My 95 ES 300 with 164,000 mi just started shifting weird this weekend. The only problem is in first gear, all the other gears work just fine. The problem is that the car won't shift until it gets over 3200 rpms in first gear. Once it clunks into 2nd then everything's fine. I changed the fluid about 12,000 miles ago and it's not low or anything. It almost seems as though the ECT button is on, it's weird. It just doesn't seem like the tranny is bad and I'm hoping there's an easy fix????

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Thanks Dave,

It's happening all the time. It does that standard cold tranny shifting still, but I know that's typical.

Try resetting your ECU. You can pull the fuse labeled 'ecu' or something similar for about 10 minutes, or disconnect the battery for 30 mins or so. In many models that will case the car to 'relearn' driving habits and go back to normal patterns.

Worth a shot, it's free

Cool

1) Flush the transmission fluid
2) Check & adjust the kick-down cable
3) Check CTS for a false cold reading

Do it in that order.

Default delayed shift...

I always allow my lexus to idle for about 3 minutes before I start driving. Letting the RPM'S drop. This will prevent it from having the delayed 1st gear shift. Hopes this helps.
