Exclamation Parking Brake

Someone please help!
The parking brake on my 97 ES is not engaged, however teh parking brake light stays on. At times it does go away, like when you go over a bump, but a few minutes later it comes back on. The light simply says BRAKE.

I'm confused about the first part. When you say the parking brake is not engaged, do you mean that when the shifter is in P, the car still rolls??? Or do you mean, "Even though the shifter is not in P, the brake light still comes on"?

OK, if that wasn't it then I think it could be the brake fluid. If it's NOT the brake fluid, then it might be the Cap to the brake fluid. I forgot to check to see if the ES had a sensor on the cap, but on my Toyota Landcruiser, the cap has a sensor on it, and I checked the fluids, they were all good, I even adjusted the e-brake, still the light came on, until I checked the cap and the sensor seemed bad (discolored and scratched up) then I bought a new cap for it. The cap costed $90 at the dealer(for the landcruiser's price, maybe the ES's price is cheaper and Damn that's a rip off) But that solved the problem.

add fluid.
even though the fluid may be above the minimum mark, it can still set off the low level sensor. Toyo/Lexi are very sensitive. Bring it up to just under the max line and the light should go away.

Ok thanks, i will go check in teh morning. To clarify my previous statement, i mean the e-brake, the foot operated one on the side. With the car in drive, teh brake light stays on, but the car still drives.

Cool

What they said. Brake fluid.
AFA the e-brake, you've mostly likely worn the brake shoes off. We use a drum-in-disk setup. The parking brake is nothing mroe than a super tiny drum brake inside the rear disks. They wear over the years.

God forbid you ever use it driving. I'm on my second set of brake shoes. 2 much *** dragging before I had the rear sway bar.
