The only rumor is that it'll be the 2009 ES 400h using the RX 400h engine.

I was wondering when Lexus would do this. I'll stay posted even though I'm sure I won't be able to afford it.

I'll second that...wife is dead set on next ride being a hybrid and I'm dead set on a Lexus to replace my '94 ES. It seems odd to me that the ES appears to be so low on the hybridization schedule, would've thought it'd be available before a GS version (which I'd love but not for 55k...although it does meet BOTH our requirements ).

so far the lexus hybrids have been more power than fuel economy. i like power good enough... but if i want that kind of power, i'm not looking to do it in an es. a gs, sure. an is, hell yeah :P

i do hope they drop the camry hybrid's powertrain in the es, and still manage to squeeze upper 30s mpg out of it. but i haven't heard anything about that happening.

Many models don't see a major increase in fuel economy (the GSh, LSh and Accord hybrid that is no longer made) but do have much lower emissions, which IMO is just as important.

If you want a zillion miles to a tank - get a Prius (or an Altima or even Camry). If you want style and performance while still doing your part to reduce greenhouse gasses, then the Lexus hybrids kick azzzzz.

Perhaps a groundswell of support for an ES hybrid from groups like ours will help push Lexus to get one to market sooner rather than later.

I think the ES will probably have the same hybrid engine as the Camry. Toyota has been doing this for years so I don't see why they would change now.
