Default Sad days for my ES. :(

So last night my car bottomed out pretty badly and shortly after my power steering stopped working. I took my car to two mechanics who checked it out and told them my power steering shouldn't be affected by my car bottoming out. They did tell me my power steering pump needed to be replaced because my fluid was all burnt. I was also told that the rack and pinion might need replacing as well.

And about two days ago i was driving and i noticed it was really hard to get the tranny to shift into second gear. It would stay in first unless i revved it high or let off the gas abruptly which would make the car jerk. My mechanic adjusted the throttle cable which helped the problem a bit but it still is difficult to drive. He told me I might need a transmission rebuild.

So I have two potentially very expensive problems that came in the span of two days. I don't know if i should fix the problems and get rid of the car or fix it and drive it for another year or two. We bought the car for 6000 at 165k miles. It is now at 188k about a year and a half later. What do you guys suggest? I just got new SC430 wheels on it too.

fix it. Did you flush the tranny yet, try flushing all of the fluids because it seems that most of them are bad; coolant, brakes, tranny, etc.

How's the body, interior and engine ? make the choice from there? if you spend $4000 on it over 12 month's that's 333 a month still cheeper then a car payment

i plan to get it repaired this weekend and have the tranny fluid flushed.

the body has never been in an accident i don't think, but the paint is chipped and touched up a lot from the previous owner. the interior is in pretty good condition but the leather needs to be conditioned. engine is the worst part i think.

Cool

Did you check the belt?
Check the belt & the tension that's on it. Bottoming out would exert a force that would swing the powersteering pump & take tension off the P/S belt.
