Default Help with AC problem

hello board. I have a 92 ES 300 that I just recently purchased and the ac isn't blowing cold. The guy that did my exhaust work on it tried to see if more freon was needed. Mind you he is not an ac specialist, but he said it might be the expasion valve not allowing the cold air to blow into the car. The heat works and it blows hard just not cold. He also told me that it only took R12 freon. Has anyone had problems with AC and does this make any sense what I'm stating? Please help, before I spend big bucks on an old car.

ask your local parts dealer for freon with uv in it. The ultraviolet helps check for leaks. You can always put a screwdriver to one of the valve to check for pressure. I wouldn't use the fix-leaks stuff because that can blow the compressor, that last thing you want to do. Take it to someone that knows a little about the a/c system and always check for pressure first, then when the system is under pressure check leaks. To run the freon through you have to have the car on with air on max and coldest.

The 92-96 ES models are notorious for AC expansion valve problems. This has been discussed in numerous threads. Do a search.
