Rear Speakers
Yes, indeed. You do have to take out your backseat to install new rear speakers. So, in case you don't already don't know...The easy part...start with the bottom section of the seat. Grab under the front of the back seat and pull up. It should pop up and you just pull it out. The upper section of the seat has one bolt on each side at the bottom corner that you will have to remove. Lift upwards on the seat and it will also come out. The worst part of the whole ordeal starts here. You have to remove all the trim pieces at the rear window pillars (fighting with all those little clips and stuff), along with the cloth-covered piece covering your back dash, which has the speaker grilles on it. Don't try to remove the grilles themselves, but the whole piece instead.
I gutted my entire OEM system out of my '96 ES and I would say the most time consuming part was the rear speakers. It's just tight in that area around the back glass. Oh...and if I remember correctly, there was a plastic piece around the OEM speakers that I re-used to mount the aftermarket one's with. (Just a tip.)
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
