Exclamation 92 ES300 Stereo Noise!!!!

I just completed installing my stereo into a 92 ES300 with install kit (pictured below) that plugged into the factory harness so that I wouldnt have to cut the wires from the amp. Ive read all the pages on this site and found that it could be a bad ground, but i soldered the ground connection from the head untit into the ground wire for the factory stereo. I read somewhere on here of another person having the same problem, but no fix was listed other than to check the ground wire. When I turn on my stereo it makes a loud buzzing sound that varies with the rpms of my engine. The higher the rpms, the louder the sound.

Cool

Don't use the stock ground. No no no no no. Ground it to the chassie.
Then Check the ant wiring.
After that, upgrade the big 3 wires (everyone should anyways)

If you *still* have a problem. Check the plug & coil wires. They rearly fail, but if they have, don't replace them with cheap crap. OEM Denso, or *real* performance wires. (Vitek, $250 magnacore ya right hah)

Cool

"The big 3" refferances to the three major electrical connections in the car.
1) Alternator + to battery +
2) Battery - to Chassie (Car body. The frame of the car serves as a grounding point)
3) Engine to chassie (Helps cut down EMI & can lower the current of the ignition system slightly Freeing up minute amounts of power. Some "kits" claim engine performance, but that's a load of big brown-green stuff. To gain performance, you'd have to not have much in stock grounding in the first place. To which point you'd get weak spark & the engine would likely run poorly.)

The chassie is what the car sits on - that nice metal frame. All ground wires connect to the chassie. And Phoenix answered your question about the "big 3" wires. I, myself, have the same problem. Its technically called "alternator whine." I havent had much luck fixing it and its driving me nuts. Tinkering with the big three havent done much of anything, nor has grounding the cd player differently.

A little off topic, but I would like to know where you got that wiring harness.

I agree with the last post, 'alternator whine' is definitely hard to get rid of. The only way I got rid of that annoying sound in my honda was by completely re-wiring the stereo system and using an external amp. I can definitely imagine that would be very different (and difficult) to do in an ES... Can't wait to try it

Default Metra model 70-8112?

If I use this wiring harness that has RCA Pre-Ins, does this mean I only need to connect those to the Receiver (and of course the power, ant, grnd, etc)? I'm using a Alpine CDA-7995. I'm a little confused as to whethere or not this allows the stock amp to work only because I know the receiver has it's own internal amp and if i connect the wires to the stock harness, it will be like using the receiver to power my amp, which definitely does not sound smart. So, is this kinda like a bypass of all the speaker wires and jumping signal directly to the stock amp? I got a '93 ES, there are 4 preouts on the receiver... Comments please.
